The concept of detoxification
Human body is a complex yet meticulously organized system. It is working 24×7 to ensure proper maintenance and functioning of the body.
This also includes filtering of waste out of the body via the kidney, liver and gastrointestinal system. The kidney filters out waste and toxins via urine. The liver also does the process of detoxification of blood. The large intestine helps throw out waste and undigested matter in the form of stool. This is how the different organs do the detoxification process.
Nowadays, we see people consuming different coloured liquids, foods in the name of detox diets and foods.
So what is the hype about detox diet?
Well, the body does most part of cleaning the system on its own on a regular basis. The body’s detoxification organs work to remove toxins from the body. So, when we refrain from things which hamper our body’s detoxification organs, we are ultimately supporting the detoxification process. No kind of fancy detox diets can really help if our lifestyle habits are not good. There are a few lifestyle changes that we can inculcate to ensure better functioning of the detoxification organs:
Eat more raw vegetables and seeds
Raw vegetables are a source of fibre and prebiotic. Consuming enough raw vegetables and seeds will ensure optimum fibre consumption which will help bulk formation and better bowel movement.
Eat fermented foods and probiotic rich foods
Consuming fermented foods like yoghurt, kimchi, dosa, idli, kanji etc. are fermented foods and rich source of probiotics. Probiotics are healthy bacteria which helps in maintaining healthy gut and elimination of toxins.
Keep yourself adequately hydrated.
It is very important to consume enough water to remove toxins from the body adequately. One of the ways to check whether you are optimally hydrated is to check your urine colour. Check the reference chart below
Avoid refined and processed foods
Too much consumption of refined and processed foods can make your detoxification organs sluggish and prevent them from working well. Therefore, for proper functioning of liver, refined and processed food should be avoided.
Be active
When you exercise, it not only releases your happy hormones like serotonin but also reduces inflammation and helps your detoxification organs to work better.
Have good quality sleep.
Sleep performs important function of cleaning your toxins that build up in the entire day. If we are sleep deprived, the body is not cleansed of these toxins and starts building up in the body. This puts a load on the detoxification organs.
Use natural supplement for liver cleanse
Poor lifestyle, unhealthy eating, alcohol consumption and smoking all hamper and can slow the body’s natural cleansing mechanism. Not all foods, diets and supplements labelled as detox are helpful. Supplements with natural ingredients can help support the detoxification organs to work effectively. Certain herbs like milk thistle extract, triphala giloy, bhringaraj, kalmegh, kutki are known to have proven antioxidant and hepato-protective properties. Good Nutrition’s Restore and Revitalize contains milk thistle, kasni, triphala giloy, bhringaraj, kalmegh, kutki, bhumiyamlaki and sarapunkha which can help revitalize and support liver cleansing function.
Detoxification is a daily part of our living which our organs like kidney, liver and intestine performs efficiently. However, this cleansing function requires healthy lifestyle habits on a daily basis and natural supplements to improve their functioning and to work proficiently.
